What the Worksheet Editor does
The PrintablesWorld Worksheet Editor is a free, browser-based design tool for building your own printable worksheets, activity packs and classroom handouts. It works like a lightweight Canva for teachers: a blank A4 or US Letter page you fill with text, shapes, lines, borders, stickers, answer spaces and images — placed exactly where you want them — plus 2,000+ ready-made worksheet templates and hundreds of auto-generated puzzles dropped straight onto the page. When you are happy, one click turns the whole multi-page document into a single, branded, print-ready PDF.
Everything runs entirely in your browser. There is no sign-up, nothing is uploaded to a server, and your work saves itself as you go — and you can keep a personal library of named worksheets on your device. It is free to use and free to download.
In a nutshell: start from a ready-made template or a blank page, add and arrange any content you like, drop in live puzzles and worksheets, build as many pages as you need, then preview and download one tidy branded PDF. The rest of this page explains every button, panel and option in detail.
How to use the Worksheet Editor — step by step
- Start from a template or a blank page. Open the Worksheets tab on the left to browse 2,000+ ready-made layouts, or just begin on the empty page. Clicking a template drops it onto the current page (if the page is empty) or adds it as a fresh page on top of your stack.
- Name your worksheet (optional). Type a title in the box at the top left. The name appears as a small running title on every printed page; leave it blank for no title.
- Pick a paper size. Choose A4 or US Letter once — every page in the document uses it.
- Add content from the left toolbar. Switch between the Worksheets, Text, Elements, Stickers, Answer, Activities, Upload and Background tabs and click an item to drop it on the current page.
- Arrange your design. Drag any element to move it, use the corner handles to resize, and double-click a text box to edit it in place. The panel on the right changes the selected item’s font, colour, fill, border, rotation and stacking order.
- Select and align several at once. Drag a box around elements (or Shift-click, or press Ctrl/Cmd + A) to select many, then align, evenly distribute, copy, duplicate or delete them together.
- Insert ready-made activities (optional). From the Activities tab, search the catalogue and click a puzzle or worksheet to place it on the page, then fine-tune its options on the right and add an answer key.
- Build more pages. Scroll down to move through your pages, use the controls above each page to reorder, duplicate or delete it, and click “+ Add page” to add a blank one.
- Set print options. Use the top-bar toggles to add a “Name” and “Date” line and to show or hide page numbers.
- Save to your library (optional). Click Saved to store the worksheet under a name in this browser, and re-open, rename or delete it any time.
- Preview and download. Click Preview to check the branded PDF, then Download to save it. Use Share to copy a link that re-opens the whole document elsewhere.
Tip: work top-down — choose paper size first, then drop in your main content, then add name/date lines and page numbers last so nothing shifts.
2,000+ ready-made worksheet templates
The Worksheets tab is a built-in library of over two thousand print-ready, fully-editable worksheet layouts — handwriting, maths, reading & writing, science, social studies, planners, graphic organizers, early-years and more. Click any template and it drops onto the page as ordinary text, lines, boxes and shapes, so you can change every word and mark before printing. Nothing is locked.
Find the right sheet fast
- Search — type a keyword (e.g. “fractions”, “Venn”, “cursive”) to filter instantly.
- By Subject — filter to Math, ELA/Reading, Science, Social Studies, Handwriting, Fine Art, Behaviour/SEL, Early Years, Graphic Organizers, Planners, Awards or Blank pages, with a live count beside each.
- By Grade — narrow to Preschool, Kindergarten, Grades 1–12 or College; counts update as you filter.
- Pinned — pin your favourites with the pin icon and jump back to them from the Pinned filter.
Template options
- New numbers each time — many maths sheets (times tables, addition/subtraction, division, rounding, comparing, drills and more) can be regenerated with a fresh, randomised set of questions, so no two printouts are the same.
- Include answer key — auto-checkable worksheets can add a filled solutions page automatically, right after the sheet.
- Fully editable — every template is built from the editor’s own elements, so titles, questions, labels, lines and colours can all be changed after you drop it in.
Categories at a glance: Handwriting (letter & word tracing, cursive, copywork, decorated picture-letter sheets), Math (facts, tables, place value, fractions, decimals, money, time, measurement, geometry, data, word problems, drills), Reading & Writing (comprehension frames, story maps, grammar & punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, journals, writing plans, essays), Science (label diagrams, life cycles, sorting, reports, the scientific method), Social Studies (maps, timelines, biographies, community & government, economics, cultures), Planners & Trackers (daily/weekly/monthly planners, budgets, habit and mood trackers, teacher planning), Organizers (Venn, T-chart, KWL, Frayer, cause/effect, main idea and many more), Early Years (number & shape tracing, counting, patterns, pre-writing), plus Fine Art, Classroom & SEL, Awards & Labels and Blank & Notes paper.
The top toolbar
- Worksheet name — shown as the running title on each page (only when you enter one).
- Paper size — A4 or US Letter, applied to the whole document.
- Zoom — zoom the page in and out for precise placement.
- Undo / redo — step back and forward through your edits (also Ctrl/Cmd + Z and Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + Z).
- Name, Date, Page # — toggles that add a “Name: ____” and “Date: ____” line to the header and show or hide footer page numbers.
- Saved — open your personal library of named worksheets saved in this browser (save the current one, or re-open, rename and delete earlier ones).
- Share, Preview, Download — copy a re-openable link, preview the branded PDF, or download the print-ready file.
Everything you can add
Text
Add a heading, a subheading or a body paragraph. Double-click to type, then restyle font size, weight, colour and alignment from the right-hand panel. Text wraps automatically inside its box.
Elements — shapes, lines and borders
Insert rectangles, ellipses and lines (solid or dashed), plus two diagonal lines you edit by dragging their endpoints to any angle. A library of original vector shapes is included — triangles, diamonds, pentagons, hexagons, stars and starbursts, arrows and chevrons in every direction, a cross, a plus, a parallelogram, a trapezoid, a speech bubble, a lightning bolt, a shield, a pennant, a ribbon and a banner. There are also ten ready-made page borders and frames: solid, bold, double, dashed, dotted, rounded, rounded-dashed, inset, corner brackets and bold-dash. Every shape and border is recolourable and resizable.
Stickers
Browse a searchable library of clean line-icons (over 200, organised into Weather & sky, Nature, Animals, School & learning, Shapes & arrows, Fun & objects, Food & drink, Sport & activity, Transport, Tech & devices, People & hands, Symbols and Holidays & seasons). Recolour and resize any sticker after adding it. The icons are from an open-licensed set, free to use and print.
Answer fields
Drop in answer lines and answer boxes so students have a clear space to write — perfect for fill-in-the-blank questions, short answers and working-out boxes.
Images
Upload your own PNG or JPG (up to 5.5 MB) and place it anywhere on the page. Images are handled in your browser and never uploaded to a server.
Backgrounds and designs
Set a page background colour from the swatches or a custom picker, and add a simple background design: faint dot, grid, line or diagonal patterns, or decorative frames (solid, double, dashed, rounded, corner accents and bold). Backgrounds sit behind your content and print with the page.
Working on the canvas
- Move — drag an element; resize — drag a corner or edge handle; lines have endpoint handles for any angle.
- Edit text — double-click to type directly on the page.
- Rotate — most elements have a rotation handle, and the right-hand panel has a rotation slider for exact angles.
- Change fonts — pick from the built-in handwriting and display fonts (Schoolbell, Patrick Hand, Kalam, Handlee, Didact Gothic, Pacifico, Lobster and a clean sans) in the text panel; they embed in the downloaded PDF.
- Select-through — transparent areas and page frames don’t block clicks, so you can always select the element underneath.
- Keyboard — arrow keys nudge the selection (hold Shift for larger steps), Delete removes it, and Ctrl/Cmd + Z / Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + Z undo and redo. Ctrl/Cmd + C, V and D copy, paste and duplicate; Ctrl/Cmd + A selects everything on the page.
- Layer order — send an element to the back or bring it to the front from the right-hand panel.
- Pages — scroll to move between pages; the controls above each page move it up or down, duplicate it or delete it; “+ Add page” adds a blank page. Adding a worksheet template places the new sheet on top and moves the current one down. The delete button is disabled on the last empty page, and clearing the only page swaps in a fresh blank one.
Selecting, aligning and arranging
For polished, evenly-spaced layouts you can work with several elements at once:
- Marquee select — drag a box across empty canvas to select every element inside it.
- Shift-click — add or remove individual elements from the selection.
- Select all — Ctrl/Cmd + A selects everything on the current page.
- Align — snap the selection left, right, centre, top, middle or bottom.
- Distribute — space three or more elements evenly across or down the page.
- Group actions — copy, duplicate or delete the whole selection in one go, and drag any one of them to move them together.
Saving worksheets to your library
Two kinds of saving keep your work safe. First, an automatic draft: whatever is on the canvas is stored in this browser as you go, so you can close the tab and return to the exact same document later. Second, a named library: the Saved button lets you save the current worksheet under a name, then re-open, rename or delete any earlier one — handy for keeping a set of worksheets you reuse each term. Everything stays on your device; nothing is uploaded. To move a worksheet to another computer, use the Share button, which copies a link that rebuilds the whole document — pages, elements and settings — when opened.
Inserting ready-made activities
The Activities tab puts the whole PrintablesWorld catalogue — sudoku and logic puzzles, word searches, crosswords and word games, mazes, maths worksheets, handwriting practice, planners, printable paper and classroom activities — right inside your worksheet. Click one and it is generated and placed on the page as an editable element, with a matching editable title heading above it.
- Per-tool options. Select an inserted activity and the right-hand panel shows that tool’s full options — counts, grid size, difficulty, word lists and more — exactly as on its own tool page. Change them and click Apply changes to regenerate.
- Word bank & AI words. For word activities, a Word bank button opens curated topic lists, a searchable dictionary, and an AI word generator that builds a child-friendly word list from any topic.
- Regenerate. For puzzles and games, “Regenerate (new puzzle)” produces a fresh version while keeping your settings.
- Answer keys. Turn on “Show answer key” and the solution pages are added automatically after the activity.
- Verify QR. Activities that support answer verification include a scannable “Scan to see answers” QR code.
- Multi-page activities. Activities that span several pages (extra cards, call sheets, answer keys) flow onto new pages automatically.
- One activity per page keeps things tidy — adding another to the same page replaces it.
- Full-page layouts. Printable-paper and planner pages fill the whole sheet with no extra heading, since they carry their own titles.
Activities you can drop in
Hundreds of ready-made, auto-generated activities can be added to any worksheet from the Activities tab — search by name or browse by category. Every one is regenerated fresh, configurable, and (where supported) comes with an answer key and a verify QR. The catalogue spans:
- Math worksheets — addition, subtraction, multiplication tables, division, mixed operations, times-table grids, fractions (add/subtract, multiply/divide, simplifying), decimals, place value, rounding, telling time, money maths, measurement and conversions, perimeter and area, geometry and angles, coordinates, data and graphs, algebra basics, BODMAS, number lines, Roman numerals, prime numbers and timed maths drills.
- Word puzzles — word search, crossword, word scramble, cryptogram, missing letters, anagrams, word ladders, cloze passages, spelling tests, syllable and vowel/consonant practice, synonyms and antonyms, compound and rhyming words.
- Logic puzzles — sudoku (4×4 to 9×9, easy to expert, irregular, diagonal and killer), kakuro, nonogram/picross, binary puzzles, number pyramids, number chains, logic grids, hashi, hidato, star battle, suguru and more.
- Mazes — classic mazes in several sizes and difficulties, plus maths mazes.
- Handwriting — letter tracing and handwriting practice sheets, including bubble and block letters.
- Printable paper — graph paper, lined and primary-ruled paper, dot grids and more, filling the whole page.
- Planners — daily, weekly, monthly and yearly planners, dated calendars, habit and mood trackers, to-do lists, meal and budget planners.
- Classroom activities — bingo cards, flashcards, coloring pages, certificates, name tags, reward and behaviour charts, cut-and-paste sorts, all-about-me sheets and more.
Add an activity and it lands on its own page (multi-page activities, such as answer keys or extra cards, flow onto new pages). Select it to open its full option set on the right — counts, grid size, difficulty, themes and word lists — then press Apply to regenerate. Word activities also get a Word bank with curated topics, a dictionary and an AI word generator.
Branding, printing and paper
Every downloaded page comes out of the shared PrintablesWorld branded template: a small running title, a centred copyright footer with the current year, optional page numbers and a light three-line watermark. The chrome sits cleanly around your design, frames and QR codes, so worksheets look consistent and professional. Pick A4 or US Letter to match your printer; the layout prints edge-to-edge cleanly at home, in a library or in the classroom.
Saving, sharing and adding from tool pages
Your document is saved automatically in your browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. The Share button copies a link that re-opens the entire document — pages, elements and settings — on any device. And from any individual tool page on the site, the “Add to workbook” button drops that sheet straight onto a new page in the editor.
Who it is for
Teachers building a week of morning work or revision packs, tutors assembling bespoke practice, homeschoolers planning lessons, and parents putting together quiet-time activity folders. Anywhere you would print a stack of separate sheets, the Worksheet Editor lets you mix your own text, prompts and answer spaces with ready-made puzzles into one tidy, branded booklet.
FAQs
Quick answers
Is the Worksheet Editor free?
Yes. You can design and download a multi-page worksheet for free, with no sign-up. The editor runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How do I add and edit content?
Use the left rail tabs — Worksheets (2,000+ ready-made templates), Text, Elements, Stickers, Answer, Activities, Upload and Background — and click an item to drop it on the page. Drag any element to move it, use the corner handles to resize, the rotation handle or slider to turn it, and double-click text to edit it in place. The right-hand panel sets the selected element’s font, colour, style, rotation and layer order. Drag a box to select several elements at once, then align, distribute, copy, duplicate or delete them together.
Are there ready-made worksheet templates?
Yes — over 2,000. Open the Worksheets tab and filter by subject (maths, reading & writing, science, social studies, handwriting, planners, organizers, early years and more) or by grade (Preschool to College), or search by keyword. Click a template to drop it on the page; it is built from ordinary editable elements, so you can change every word, line and colour. Many maths sheets can regenerate with new numbers, and auto-checkable sheets can add an answer-key page.
Can I save worksheets to reuse later?
Yes. Your work autosaves as a draft in your browser, and the Saved button keeps a named library you can re-open, rename or delete. Everything stays on your device — to open a worksheet elsewhere, use Share to copy a link that rebuilds the whole document.
What keyboard shortcuts are there?
Arrow keys nudge the selection (hold Shift for bigger steps), Delete removes it, Ctrl/Cmd+Z and Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+Z undo and redo, Ctrl/Cmd+C / V / D copy, paste and duplicate, and Ctrl/Cmd+A selects everything on the page.
Can I drop in a ready-made puzzle or worksheet?
Yes. The "Activities" tab puts the whole catalogue — sudoku, word searches, crosswords, mazes, maths worksheets, handwriting, planners, printable paper and more — inside your worksheet. Click one to place it on the page with an editable title. Select it and the right-hand panel shows that tool’s full options (counts, grid size, difficulty, word lists); change them and press Apply to regenerate.
How do the Word bank and AI word generator work?
For word activities (word search, crossword, scramble, bingo and more), select the activity and click the Word bank button in its options. You can pick from curated topic lists, search a dictionary by length or letters, or use the AI generator to build a child-friendly word list from any topic. Apply it and the activity regenerates with your words.
Can I regenerate a puzzle or add an answer key?
Yes. Select an inserted puzzle and use "Regenerate (new puzzle)" for a fresh version, or tick "Show answer key" to add the solution pages automatically. Verifiable activities also include a scannable "Scan to see answers" QR code.
What can I add to a page?
Text (headings and body), shapes and lines (including diagonals you drag to any angle), 20+ vector shapes, ten page borders/frames, 200+ recolourable stickers, answer lines and boxes, uploaded images, page background colours and simple background designs (dot/grid/line/diagonal patterns and decorative frames).
Does my work get saved?
Your document is saved automatically in this browser as you go, so you can leave and come back without losing it. Use the Share button to copy a link that re-opens the exact same document on another device.
What paper sizes can I print on?
Choose A4 or US Letter once and every page matches, so it prints cleanly at home, in a library or in the classroom.
Are the worksheets branded?
Every downloaded page carries the PrintablesWorld branded chrome (a running title, footer and light watermark) over your free-form design, the same template every tool on the site uses.
