Logic grid puzzles ask you to match items across several categories using a set of clues. A classic example: five people each own a different pet, live in a different coloured house, and drink a different beverage. You read clues like "The person who owns the cat lives in the blue house," mark X or ✓ in a grid, and deduce the full solution.

This tool lets you build your own puzzles from scratch. Choose how many factors (categories) and how many items per factor, type in your clue sentences, and generate a branded PDF ready to print or share. The grid, clues, and optional answer key all appear on A4 or US Letter paper, formatted for classroom handouts, puzzle books, or personal challenge sheets.

Worked classroom example

A Year 5 teacher wants to review animal habitats. She picks a 3×3 grid with three factors: Animal (Lion, Penguin, Frog), Habitat (Desert, Antarctic, Rainforest), and Diet (Carnivore, Piscivore, Insectivore). She writes three clues:

• The lion does not live in the Antarctic.
• The animal in the rainforest eats insects.
• The penguin is a piscivore.

She types those sentences into the clues box, labels the factors and items, sets the title to "Animal Habitats Logic Puzzle," and generates. Twenty-eight students each receive a printed copy. They fill in the grid during silent reading time, then check their work against the optional results page she projects on the whiteboard.

How the generator works under the hood

The engine lays out a matrix with one mini-grid for every pair of factors. If you choose three factors, you get three sub-grids; five factors yield ten sub-grids arranged in a lower-triangular pattern. The generator calculates cell sizes to fit your chosen number of items, draws outer borders in black and inner grid lines in a lighter shade, then places factor names and item labels around the edges. Clues appear below the grid in paragraph form; easy mode wraps key phrases in bold to help younger solvers spot critical words. An optional second page shows a filled results table with every correct match.

Designed for A4 and US Letter printing

The PDF margins and font sizes automatically suit both A4 (210 × 297 mm) and US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) paper. Print from any browser or PDF reader without adjusting scale settings. Grids remain legible even at 5×7 because the engine shrinks cell sizes and label fonts just enough to fit the page while keeping text readable.

Notes and limitations

• The tool does not validate that your clues lead to a unique solution — you are responsible for testing your puzzle logic.
• Maximum grid size is 5 factors by 7 items; larger puzzles won't fit legibly on a single page.
• The generator does not auto-generate clues from a solution grid; you must write clue sentences yourself.
• Label text longer than the cell width will shrink to fit, but extremely long words may still overflow.
