Create Printable Number Bonds Worksheets to 10, 20, and 100
Generate free printable number-bond worksheets where students complete equations such as “7 + ___ = 10”. Choose a total — 10, 20, or 100 — and the generator randomises which part of the equation is blank so learners practise all three positions.
Download in A4 or US Letter PDF format with an optional answer key. Perfect for UK Reception to Year 3 and US Kindergarten to Grade 2.
Why use this number bonds generator?
Number bonds are the single most important fact family in early maths. A child who instantly knows that 7 and 3 make 10, or that 8 and 2 make 10, will mental-add and mental-subtract far faster than one who does not. Use the generator for:
- early addition and subtraction fluency
- building automatic recall of pairs that make 10 and 20
- preparing learners for mental maths and arithmetic tests
- bonds to 100 (in steps of 5) for upper-primary mental strategies
- supporting learners who still count on fingers
What you can customise
- Total: 10, 20, or 100 (bonds to 100 in steps of 5)
- Number of problems per page
- Include answer key
- Paper size: A4 or US Letter PDF
- Name and date fields
The missing-position is always randomised. On any given sheet, some equations hide the first addend, some hide the second, and some hide the total — so learners cannot memorise a pattern.
Notes and limitations
- Bonds to 100 use increments of 5 (95 + 5, 90 + 10, 85 + 15…) to keep the pairs memorable. If you want bonds to 100 in steps of 1, use the Missing Numbers generator.
- All number bonds use addition form: a + b = total. The “hide the first addend” variant implicitly teaches subtraction through the inverse.
- Bonds to 10 produce a finite set of pairs (0+10, 1+9, 2+8…), so a very long sheet will repeat pairs.
- Print at 100% scale.
Who these worksheets are for
Parents
Daily five-minute practice at home is enough to lock in bonds to 10 within a few weeks.
Teachers
Use as a daily starter or morning work — bonds practice pays back many times over across the year.
Homeschool families
The foundation of nearly every early-years arithmetic routine.
Tutors
If a learner is slow on mental addition, go back to number bonds first. Fluency here makes everything else faster.
Worksheet style options
Bonds to 10
The classic starting point. Reception and Year 1 learners should recall these within a second.
Bonds to 20
Extends the pairs into teen numbers. Year 2 and Year 3 work.
Bonds to 100
Pairs that make 100 in steps of 5: 95+5, 90+10, 85+15, all the way to 50+50. These are the building blocks of mental addition with larger numbers.
How to use the tool
- Choose the total: 10, 20, or 100.
- Set the number of problems on the page.
- Turn the answer key on if you want to mark quickly.
- Choose A4 or US Letter.
- Generate and download the PDF.
Worked example
Set Total to 10 and Problems to 20. The generator might produce “7 + ___ = 10”, “___ + 4 = 10”, “3 + 7 = ___”, and “___ + 9 = 10”. Students fill in 3, 6, 10, and 1 respectively. Because the missing position is randomised, the same learner practises addition (finding the total) and implicit subtraction (finding a missing addend) on the same sheet.
Methodology
The number-bonds engine picks a first addend inside the total (0 to the total, or in steps of 5 for bonds to 100), calculates the second addend, then randomly blanks one of the three positions in the equation. The answer key fills every blank back in. Every sheet is rendered through the shared branded PDF template.
Helpful preset ideas
- Bonds to 10, 20 problems — daily Reception/Year 1 starter
- Bonds to 20, 20 problems — Year 2 consolidation
- Bonds to 100 (step 5), 20 problems — Year 3/4 mental maths warm-up
Best ways to practise number bonds
- Aim for instant recall, not slow calculation. Five minutes a day over four weeks beats one long session.
- Use the pair-visualisation technique: for bonds to 10, imagine ten fingers splitting into two groups.
- Practise bonds to 20 and bonds to 100 as extensions of bonds to 10 (if 7+3=10, then 17+3=20 and 70+30=100).
- Chant bonds aloud occasionally — the rhythm helps recall.
Designed for A4 and US Letter Printing
All sheets print crisply on A4 and US Letter paper, with plenty of whitespace so young learners have room to write.

FAQs
Quick answers
What totals are supported?
Classic number bonds to 10 and 20 for early practice, and bonds to 100 (in steps of 5) for older students.
Which part of the equation is missing?
The missing position is randomised — sometimes the first addend, sometimes the second, and sometimes the total.
Is this good for early maths?
Yes. Number bonds to 10 and 20 build core addition and subtraction fluency that underpins mental maths.
Can I print an answer key?
Yes. Toggle "Include answer key" to add the answers to the end of the PDF.
