Put numbers in order

Ordering numbers builds comparison and place-value understanding. This generator creates worksheets where each problem shows a shuffled set of numbers and the student rewrites them in order on the line below. You choose how many numbers per set, the digit range, and whether to order smallest-to-largest, largest-to-smallest, or a mix — and an answer key is generated automatically.

Ascending and descending

Ascending means smallest to largest (1, 5, 9). Descending means largest to smallest (9, 5, 1). Mixing both on one sheet stops pupils answering on autopilot and forces them to read the instruction each time. Comparing the leading digits, then working left to right, is the reliable strategy for ordering multi-digit numbers.
