Create Printable Percentages Worksheets for Three Core Skills

Generate free printable percentages worksheets across three core skills: finding a percentage of an amount, calculating a percentage increase or decrease, and converting a percentage to a simplified fraction.

Download in A4 or US Letter PDF format with an optional answer key. Designed for UK Year 5–8 and US Grade 5–7 learners working through percentage fluency and word-problem preparation.

Why use this percentages worksheet generator?

Percentages show up in almost every real-world numeracy problem — discounts, tips, tax, statistics, probability — so fluency matters. Use the generator for:

  • building fast recall of “percent of an amount” with common percents
  • introducing percentage increase and decrease through realistic prices
  • linking percentages to simplified fractions (50% = 1/2, 25% = 1/4, 75% = 3/4)
  • preparing for SATs, KS3 assessments, and middle-school tests
  • GCSE foundation-tier revision

What you can customise

  • Mode: percent of an amount, percentage increase/decrease, percent-to-fraction, or Mixed
  • Restricted to common percents: 5%, 10%, 20%, 25%, 50%, 75% — keeps answers clean and teachable
  • Number of problems per page
  • Include answer key
  • Paper size: A4 or US Letter PDF
  • Name and date fields

Notes and limitations

  • Percentages draw from a fixed list of common values (5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 75) so answers land on whole numbers or cleanly simplified fractions. If you need unusual percents like 13%, this tool is not the right fit.
  • The worksheet prints the question only; it does not show worked steps. The answer key lists the final value, not the method.
  • Percentage increase/decrease problems use integer starting amounts so results stay readable.
  • Print at 100% scale.

Who these worksheets are for

Parents

Support homework on discounts, sales, and “find 20% of”-style questions at home.

Teachers

Produce targeted sheets for each of the three percentage sub-skills and mix them together for end-of-unit revision.

Homeschool families

Layer percentage work on top of existing fraction and decimal practice.

Tutors

Diagnose weak spots by focusing on a single mode at a time — many students are strong on “percent of” but weak on percentage change.

Worksheet style options

Percent of an amount

Questions such as “Find 25% of 80”. Ideal for introducing percentages as a fraction of a whole.

Percentage increase or decrease

Questions such as “Increase 60 by 20%” or “Decrease £40 by 25%”. This prepares learners for real-world price changes and statistical growth/decline.

Percent to fraction

Questions such as “Write 75% as a fraction in its simplest form”. Reinforces the link between percentages and fractions.

Mixed

Randomises across all three modes — good for revision and assessment preparation.

How to use the tool

  1. Pick a mode (or Mixed).
  2. Set the number of problems.
  3. Turn the answer key on if needed.
  4. Choose A4 or US Letter.
  5. Generate and download the PDF.

Worked example

Set Mode to “Percent of an amount”. The generator might produce “Find 25% of 80”, “Find 10% of 150”, and “Find 75% of 40”. Students divide to find 10% (or 1%) and scale up, giving answers of 20, 15, and 30. The answer key lists these three values in order, making marking a single pass.

Methodology

The percentages engine picks a percent from the common list (5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 75), picks an integer amount that keeps the answer clean, and formats the question according to the mode. For percent-to-fraction it simplifies the fraction using the greatest common divisor so the answer is always in its simplest form. Mixed mode picks a random mode per question. Every sheet is rendered through the shared branded PDF template.

Helpful preset ideas

  • Percent of an amount, 20 problems — fluency starter
  • Percentage increase/decrease, 15 problems — real-world pricing
  • Percent to fraction, 20 problems — conversion practice
  • Mixed, 25 problems — end-of-unit revision

Best ways to practise percentages

  • Master 10% first — every other common percent can be derived from it (5% is half of 10%, 20% is double, 50% is half of the whole).
  • Spot the key percentages that equal easy fractions: 25% = 1/4, 50% = 1/2, 75% = 3/4.
  • Always check a percentage increase by estimating: “a 25% increase is a quarter more”.
  • Mix percentage questions with decimal and fraction practice to cement the link.

Designed for A4 and US Letter Printing

PDFs are laid out for both A4 and US Letter, so percentages practice prints crisply at 100% scale on either paper size.
